Memo for Slack

What Memo does in Slack

You DM it after a meeting, typed or dictated, in English or Finnish. Something like “Met Sarah at Acme, they want the enterprise plan, sending pricing Thursday.” Memo replies with the contact and company, the meeting logged against them, the deal and the stage it belongs in, and a follow-up task with an owner and a date.

The reply is a card listing every proposed change and the exact fields it would set, with buttons to approve, edit or reject. Nothing is written to your CRM, calendar or outbox until you approve it. If you edit a proposal, Memo takes the edit into account the next time it drafts something similar.

Before a meeting in your calendar, Memo can send a short brief: the open deal and its stage, the last notes, who owns the relationship, what was promised last time. If the person is not in your CRM yet, it puts the brief together from public sources instead.

Once a day it can send a digest of what looks stuck. Deals with no recent activity, a stage change that implies a next step nobody took, a meeting that happened and was never logged. It is one message a day, and you can turn it off.

Memo works only in its own direct message with you. It does not join channels, post in channels, or read any other conversation.

Installing it

Add to Slack

  1. Click Add to Slack. Slack shows the permissions Memo asks for and which workspace it will be added to. A workspace owner or admin has to approve the install.
  2. Memo confirms the install and opens a direct message with you.
  3. In that DM it asks you to connect your CRM, and links you to app.sentmemo.com to authorise it. HubSpot, Pipedrive, Attio and Microsoft Dynamics 365 are supported. A calendar connection is optional and turns on meeting prep.
  4. Send Memo one sentence about a real meeting and see what it proposes. Nothing is written until you approve it.

Memo is a paid product, and installing the Slack app does not start a subscription. If your company is not a customer yet, email us and we will set the workspace up first.

Permissions and what each one is for

Slack asks you to grant these at install. They are all bot scopes: Memo acts as its own user, not as you.

ScopeWhy Memo asks for it
chat:writeSend Memo's replies, proposal cards, briefs and digests in the DM with you. Nothing is posted to channels.
im:historyRead the direct message conversation with Memo, so a follow-up like “make that next Tuesday instead” makes sense in context. It covers Memo's own DM only, not channels or group messages.
im:readSee that a direct message with Memo exists, so it replies in the right conversation.
im:writeOpen the direct message the first time Memo has something for you, such as the install confirmation or a meeting brief.
users:readLook up your name and time zone, so a brief arrives at a sensible hour where you are.
users:read.emailMatch your Slack account to your Memo seat and your CRM owner record. Without it Memo cannot tell whose deals it is looking at.
reactions:read, reactions:writeReact to your message while Memo is working on it, and read a thumbs-down as feedback on a proposal.
files:readRead a file you send Memo in its DM: a voice note to transcribe, a photo of a business card, a call transcript. Only files shared with Memo directly.

AI-generated content

Memo uses large language models to read your messages and write drafts. Generated content can be wrong or incomplete. That is what the approval step is for: nothing reaches a connected system without a person agreeing to it, and every draft can be edited first. We do not train models on your Slack data, and Memo does not score or rank people. The Privacy Policy covers what is processed, by which subprocessors, and how long it is kept.

Removing it

Remove Memo in your Slack workspace's app settings and its access ends immediately. The Memo account itself stays, with the web app and the CRM connection untouched. If you want the account closed and the data deleted, tell us and we will confirm when it is done.
